What have we got to lose?

Most MTG players are currently very excited about the pending new release of Return to Ravnica and I am sure after looking at the many spoilers that are on the internet many of you have already come up with many idea's of what you new standard deck will look like!

I thought it might be worth having a quick look at what we are losing from the standard format once this set goes live in October. The reason I thought it might be worth taking a moment to consider some of these great cards it that on Friday 28th September the FNM will be standard which will be the last chance for you to play them in the format!

To mark the ending of Scars and M12 we are holding a single event on that day with a top eight play off! This will take us right up to the beginning of the prerelease events which start at midnight! Olly is currently working on a deck box which will form part of the winners prize (more details on images to follow later, but it will feature some of the iconic cards that have been in standard for a couple of years!)

So what have we got to lose? Here is a list of some of the obvious favourites and some of that I will personally miss!

Firstly you have the Titan's - all have game winning potential, some more obvious than others, it would be great to see as many in play in their last event as possible! I know some players are looking at including one or more!
Then of course there is the Praetors, not seen so much now but again with the potential to win the game! Personally I am quite pleased to see the last of Elesh Norn, I have lost count of the amount of times that card has finished my chances of a win!

Next you have the swords! These have been used in to many decks and have caused numerous players so much trouble! This is the last chance you will get to equip one to an Invisible Stalker in standard!
For me I will be sad to say goodbye to the Sword of Body and Mind one of my favourite cards from the Scars block!

Of course the whole 'infect' mechanic will go! I am sure that some of you will NOT be sad to see the end of an unexpected Tainted Strike - one of my favourite sneaky tactics particularily when attacking with a Moltensteel Dragon - for me one of the best dragon of the block!

The whole 'metalcraft' mechanic and the Myr with their infinite mana production! Along with other great artifacts like Ratchet Bomb, Bonehoard, Batterskull, Wurmcoil Engine, Solemn Simulacrum, Shrine of Burning Rage and Mind Slaver although I could go on!

The Mirran Crusader and its less used counterpart Phyrexian Crusader! Not forgetting one of Mirran Crusaders great enhancements Angelic Destiny!

Some really great instant and sorcery cards such as Mana Leak, Day of Judgement, Doom Blade, Go for the Throat, Gut Shot, Phyrexian Probe, Ponder to name but a few!

There are many many more! So please have a think and put something together for the final standard for Scars and M12! It will be great to say goodbye to these cards by playing them for one last standard FNM on the 28th

Let us know what your favourites are!

  2. I'll miss Venser and Karn. I had a lot of fun with them. I'll be pleased to see the back of Inkmoth Nexus; but most of all, the most powerful combo in recent history - Memnite and Signal Pest!
