MTG Dragons Maze League

The Dragon's Maze league will last for 5 weeks and will be played at Kids Dreams in Shoreham, at the end of which players that score enough points will get a promo token...

To start the event each player will get a Dragon's maze guild pack containing 4 Dragons Maze boosters, a Ravnica Guild Pack and a Gatecrash Guild Pack. They will choose a guild to represent during the league and get a pin badge for that guild. They will then build a 40 card minimum deck and play against each other in a three matches per week to get points for their guild which will progress them through the maze. When a guild gets all the way through the maze they will receive the promo token!

Players will get a league card, which they will get a sticker for each game they win. When a player completes the card they will get a prize booster.

Each week players will be allowed to purchase additional boosters from any of the sets in the Ravnica block (depending on what is available) to improve their deck.

To join the league will cost £20 and places can be booked now (especially if you want a particular guild pack)

Warmachine and Hordes League

Over the last few months, there has been a huge influx of new Warmachine and Hordes players. So we decided to run a "slow grow" league to help a lot of the new players meet each other, learn the game, and expand thier armies. With the announcement of an organised league, came another group of players, interested to see what all the fuss was about!

Ill be posting here over the course of the leauge, to show how we're progressing, some of the people involved, and why Warmachine is growing fast in the area!

The first 4 weeks of the leauge are games at 15 points, this is the lower end of the points spectrum, and allows all the players to get involved for a fairly cheap price.

Kara Sloane takes her Cygnar gunline against the mighty Gatormen

Stryker charges forward the end life of the High Reclaimer.

We currently have 16 players signed up to the league, and almost every faction in the game is represented. With only a week and a half to go before the points limit is raised to 25, we shall have to see who can take the best advantage of these small skirmishes before the tables get busier, and the players work out counters to some of the dirty tricks and fantastic plays we have seen so far.

Over the coming weeks I will try and get some more info on the players themselves, and the factions they play, and see what they have to say about the game.

Gatormen charge the highly armoured Khador front line.

If you have any interest in seeing how the game works, give us a shout here at Gambit, and we will be happy to show you the ropes. Its pretty easy to learn the basics, and with a fantastic model range, and an ever increasing player base, you're sure to find a fun and entertaining game.

Blood Bowl Update!

On Tuesday night the latest Blood Bowl Game in our league was played. This game saw the Nagorath Startstealers take on the Organ Donors. Turnout was poor with only 11,000 fans coming through the gate!

In the first half the Stealers took the early initiative and scored a quick touchdown thanks to a bluff from the Dark Elf team forcing the Orcs to leave and opening in their line and a quick run by Udolf Ashfall! The Organ Donors seem unable to hit the elves hard enough and with a series of effective dodges the elves soon set up another touchdown, this time thanks to captain Damukror Dreamarrow! The first half finished with the Starstealers having a commanding lead of 2-0!

In the second half the Orcs were much more organised and catching the ball to a high kick immediately protected the ball carrier by boxing him in between two blitzers and two black Orcs! This time the Donors seemed to hit with everything and it was not long before the Stealers were down to 10 players! The cube of Orcs made steady progress towards the elf line but time was running out and the Donors needed to take a chance if they wanted to tie the game! Seeing a chance to score the Orc with ball broke free from the cube and ran for the line! The Dark Elf team responded quickly and following an effective blitz which sent the ball straight into the hands of thrower Lero Emberwolf, the Donors chances of scoring the two touchdowns needed slipped away! As Orcs took their anger out on any Elf player that was close enough, Emberwolf made the most of the confusion and threw the ball to Andor Curseblow, who made an easy catch as the Orcs were still concentrated in the one area! A quick run and hand off to the captain for Dreamarrows second touchdown of the game and it was all but over. The Elf team suffered a couple of knock outs but it was too late in the game to make a difference and the game ended 3-0!

Blood Bowl League Update

Today we have had one of the last games in the first round of this years blood bowl league! The Sewer Skank's played the Dream Bunnies...

The Skank's took the earlier advantage catching an off target kick and immediately started about pushing the Bunnies out of the way! They made a quick run for the line followed by an accurate throw, all they had to do was make the easy catch and score for an early lead ... the ball was fumbled and the Bunnies got a chance to recover it! The ball was recovered and immediately thrown back down the pitch, this time the catch is good and the Bunnies now had the advantage. The advantage was short lived as the unfortunate 'Bunny' was jumped on by 3 Skaven and the ball was again free! What followed could only be described as chaos as both teams fought for the ball! Eventually the Skaven got it and with the gutter runners speed soon set up another throw this time for a touch down .... this time it went to plan! 1-0 to the Sewer Skank's

Following the completion the Skank's make a long kick and despite positioning all his player to prevent a quick charge from the Dream Bunnies, Aaron leaves a gap that Mike takes full advantage of and was set up to level the score! Three Skaven quickly charge the ball carrier and despite a brave attempt to dodge them all and potentially score, makes two dodges but falls on the final attempt! There follow a mass fight for the ball and it changed hands several times but neither team could make a realistic attempt at scoring and the half time score remained 1-0!

At the beginning of the second half the Bunnies took advantage of a gap in the Skaven line and make an early run for the line and chance to level the score! In the inevitable Skaven blitz the ball got knocked of the pitch and the Skaven caught the ball after it was thrown back onto the field! The Skank's made a long bomb to clear the ball which despite the good throw was unfortunately dropped. One of the Skaven was knocked into the Bunnies fans who immediately took the opportunity to take revenge on the unfortunate rat for the 1-0 lead and he was removed as a casualty, making the Skank's two players down. The Dream Bunnies took advantage of being a player up and quickly scored, making it 1-1!

With the game coming to a close the weather got worse and it started to rain .... heavily, making it difficult to hold onto the ball! The Dream Bunnies then went on the attack making the most of the extra players and soon got the first fatality of the match and the Skaven were down another player! Another few minutes passed before yet another Skaven fell unconscious and was removed from the game leaving only 7 on the pitch! The Skank's got a chance to catch the ball and regain control of the game but unfortunately as the ball is so wet it was dropped and the opportunity passed! To make things worse the Skaven lost another player leaving only 6! The Bunnies had a chance to score and went for it falling just inches before the line, may be a final chance for the Skaven! Unfortunately for Aaron the odds were stacked against and the Bunnies took the lead at 2-1!

The Bunnies made a high kick allowing the Skank's to tried to make a catch but it was still raining heavily and the ball was dropped. Even though the Skaven picked the ball up and started to rush forward the weather was really working against the Sewer Skank's and the ball was dropped again in what should have been an easy hand off. The Bunnies grabbed the chance and make the final score 3-1!

The league currently looks like this with only one game left of this round...

Blood Bowl Update

This week we have had the second match in the Blood Bowl season, the dwarf team and champions from 2011 'Small Order' played the dark elf team the Nagarroth Starstealers.

With the speed of the elves and the hard hitting ability of the dwarf's, the crowd of 19,000 had big expectations of a high scoring game. The first half however was quite slow with the dwarf's slowly pushing down the side of the pitch protecting the ball well but unable to really punch a hole through the elves defencive line. Eventually just before the end of the half the dwarf's finally broke through and made a run for the touchdown only to fall just inches before the line. The half time score 0-0.

The temperature rose considerably for the second half and the Stealers still had there star player Damakror Dreamarrow on the sideline unconscious from a nasty block in the first half. The elves started well with Zemti Tamigrowl making a long throw down the sideline to the safe hands of Novir Longmork, unfortunately for the elf the dwarf quickly blocked him in and nearly pushed him of the pitch! In a desperate push Novir dodged the first dwarf player jump clear of the second and made a run for the line getting the first touch of the game.

The push proved to much for the elf and he spent the rest of the game getting over heat exhaustion along with two of the dwarf team. Small Order managed to get themselves more organised at the end of the second half, and caused a lot more casualties as they pushed hard to level the match. With only a few minutes remaining the elves were down by 3 more players, Udolf Ashfall becoming the only fatality of the game!

The dwarf team broke the line again and had to make a short pass to get the second touchdown and drew the score at 1-1.

The current standings in the League are...

1st The Axylotl 49ers 3 points
2nd Small Order and The Nagarroth Starstealer 1 point
4th The Organ Donors 0 points

Gary (Dark Elves)
Aaron (Skaven)
Barry (Lizardmen)
Ben (Vampires)
Robert (Ork)
Matt (Chaos)
Nick (Dark Elves)

If you are around for this weekend club day then hopefully we can get some opening games played. I still need team names and rosters from most players.

Blood Bowl League Update!

So the first game of this years Blood Bowl Season has been played...

The Axoloty 49ers played the Organ Donors. The game provided a lot of action with the final score being 4-1 to the 49ers, the speed of the Lizardmen proving to be too much for the brawn of the Orks!

Blood Bowl - The New Season!

The blood bowl season for this year has finally started, and the first game has been played! The Naggaroth Starstealers and the Axylotl 49ers also became the first teams to play at Kids Dreams in Shoreham!

The game started and neither team seemed to take the early initiative. The 49ers eventually broke free of the Dark Elf lines after the Starstealers failed to make there charge pay off. the normally agile elves finding it hard to  keep hold of the ball or even stay on their feet. The half time score was 1-0 to the Axylotl 49ers!

The second half was very close, but although the lizardmen were unable to cause much damage to the elves, the  Stealers started to make every block count and sent 4 skinks off injured! With a lack of quick players the 49ers could not stop the dark elves scoring the equaliser late in the second half. The full time score 1-1.

The Planet Mattopia!!!

The young guns campaign came to a dramatic finish on Wednesday! The top three races, the armies that had scored the most points and claimed the most sectors played out the final battle! A battle which would eventually see the planet controller by one race!

The Tyranids, Tau and Imperial Guard all sent elite units to a sector which was known to be the location of a powerful alien artifact. This artifact would allow its controller to dominate the planet (known only as PZ191) and secure all remaining sectors. The only problem was that the sector was extremely dangerous, potentially causing wounds at the beginning of every turn! These units were protected inside sealed domes safe but unable to claim the objective. The main forces of the armies had to break the lines of the other forces and release their elite unit to try and claim the ultimate prize!

The game was extremely close and both the Tyranids and Imperial Guard managed to release their units! These two units fought each other and had to fend of the dangerous terrain and despite heavy loses on both sides a winner was eventually found! Matt's Imperial Guard finally claimed the objective for the Emperor!

The campaign has been great fun to organise and the players have all really got enthusiastic about the fight for planet PZ191! We have had 13 players in total joining in with the campaign a various stages and impressively 11 races have been represented!

From next week the Young guns club will start to prepare for Double Week which starts at the end of May, kicking off with the 40K Doubles tournament on Sunday May 28th by launching a series of small doubles games to form a league which would conclude in Double Week!

Bad Weather for the Young Guns

This week a Young Guns we had two more armies join the campaign, Choas Marines and Salamanders, as well as the return of the Eldar. We also had the added complication of extreme weather conditions.

The Chaos took on the Tau Empire on a battlefield torn apart by a vicious vortex storm. Each turn the lethal vortex moved, expanded or split making advancing on the objective very perilous. The Tau lost almost half their troops to the storm before securing the objective and taking the sector.

The Salamanders fought well against the Ultramarines, but with the ground constantly moving with earthquake like tremors, movement was slow and very dangerous. The Ultramarines used their sniper scouts to prevent the Salamander advance and the secured the objective with a Drop Pod assault.

The rapidly expanding Tyranid army took on the Orks with both armies taking cover from lightning bursts that ripped up the battlefield. The thunder louder than any weapon either army encountered in the campaign so far. The Tyranids were simply too quick and claimed another sector!

Chaos Deamons had been reported in a sector just outside of the Imperial Guard borders but as all armies were in need to rations (Easter eggs) they charged into the sector keen to claim it and gather as many rations as possible. Armies made allies and tried to not to betray their new friends. The sector appeared to be rich on much need rations but as they advanced many of these had been either already claimed by deamons which quickly attacked however was unfortunate or had been bobby-trapped causing various types of explosion which claimed several troop units, the Ultramarines captain falling foul of a Vortex mine in the first turn. Some rations had been poisoned and units that found them became so confused that they simply fired on whoever was the closest, which put a severe strain on the already volatile Tau and Tyranid alliance. The Salamanders, Ultra Marines and Chaos Marines all became over run by blood letters and could advance quick enough. The Imperial guard made a deal with the Eldar and between them they managed to clear a route through to main objective and with the Eldars tank immobilised the Guard advanced with their Chimeras and claimed a valuable sector for themselves, but honouring their pack and sharing their bounty with the Eldar.

With the campaign drawing towards its end in the next few weeks, which army will be victorious?

The Awakening of the Necrons!

This week the league had two new races arrive to fight for victory in the Young Guns Campaign! The Necrons awoke with a large force which saw forces from all the other races (other than the Eldar, who allowed the others to do the work for them!) rally in an attempt to stop the Necron advance into other sectors and reclaim the area for themselves!

In the first few turns the Necrons became the target of all the armies, with the tyranids, ultra marines and Dark Eldar making the most aggressive moves! The Necrons were wiped out thanks mainly to heavy fire from the Imperial Guard and Tau forces and a sweeping close combat advance by the Tyranids. The Ultra Marines suffered heavy loses having only their captain survive the battle, when the Dark Eldar turned on them in the last turn, they themselves only having one unit left! The Tau and Tyranid armies tried to calim the sector for themselves and despite heavy fire again from the Guard which claimed nearly all of the tyranid troops, the Tau battlesuits proved too strong and it left only the Ork army with a chance to claim a victory on the very last turn. The orks not known for their skills with range weapons typically missed and the Tau were victorious!

In battles for other sectors the Guard, Tyranids and Tau all claimed victories. The Necrons have a small force remaining as do the Orks. With everything still play for the fight looks set to get much tougher, deamons have been reported and scanners are picking up very strange atmospheric conditions!

Young Guns - The War Continues!

This week the Eldar clashed with the Dark Eldar, the Tau tried to gun down the Ultra Marines and the Imperial Guard needed to prevent the hoards of the Tyranids. Games were again all set at 500 points and objective based.

The Imperial Guard fought bravely and although lost several men in close combat, the volume of fire power managed to prevent the main body of the Tyranid force getting close enough. The final result was that both armies held their objectives and the game was a draw!

The Tau had changed their force favouring battle suits and this proved to be a good tactical choice and the Ultra Marines were kept off the objective. The Marines assault was heroic but they simply could not deal with the range of the Tau weaponry and lost the game!

The quickest battle and the one with the most casualties was the Eldar and Dark Eldar battle. In the opening turns both armies lost their transport choices and needed to approach the objective on foot. The Dark Eldar came under extremely heavy fire from very early on and without the feel no pain had no chance of survival. Despite heavy early losses the Dark Eldar regrouped well and managed to control the Eldar Assault. In the final turn the objective was still unclaimed and in a final advance the Dire Avengers managed force the remaining Dark Eldar to fall back! At the end of the game there were on 6 Eldar models left, but they had claimed their first win of the campaign!

Next week is half term so the club will run from 10am until 4pm. With more time to play the battles may become a bit bigger! It is rumoured that a large Necron force has been sighted on a sight of great strategical importance, it is likely that all forces will be keen to claim this sector, and already the various forces are preparing forces to investigate!

More update to follow soon!

Young Guns League Update

At our Young Guns club this week we have started a series of small 40K battles which will form a small campaign to gain control of a small part of the 40K universe. The battles were all fought using forces of 500 points per army with a single objective to claim.

In the first battles the Dark Eldar fought the Ultramarines but neither side was able to secure the objective at the end of 5 turns but will each earn themselves 10 points which will eventually allow for reinforcements when they have accrued enough points. The Imperial Guard fought a very organised battle that saw them claim a sector of the map against the Eldar and a valuable 30 points. Finally the Tau fought hard to slow a quick moving Tyranid force but was unlucky in its shooting and lost a sector to the xenos.

Next week we should see the arrival or more forces such as the Necrons, Chaos Marines and possibly more Eldar and Ultra Marine Armies.

All the games played this week very close and all the players really entered into the spirit of the event. More updates will follow and games will eventually build up into bigger battles and more complex missions.

Dark Ascension League

The league is drawing to a close, this week players only had 15 life so games did not last long! We had vampires, zombies, humans and werewolves trying to make a challenge at the top of the table.

The new standings are:

Spirits 63
Humans 56
Werewolves 45
Vampires 36
Zombies 30
Devils 24

Zombies had the best results with both Richard and Robert scoring very high!

Next week is the final week and as it is the full moon, all lands tap for an extra mana of any colour that the land can produce. This should mean that some of the bigger creatures of Innistrad could feature! We will then know which race dominates Innistrad and also which player will be the overall winner of the league!

Dark Ascension League Update!

Week 4 of the Dark Ascension League was held in Shoreham yesterday, with 7 all playing each other to find the dominant race on Innistrad! This week we had Vampires, Spirits, Humans, Werewolves and Devils!

The rule this week was that all land produced mana of any colour so it made the games quicker and allowed decks to have the best spells from any colour!

The result was another win for Robert, this time with Spirits! The tribal scores were:

Spirits 36
Devils 12
Humans 9
Werewolves 6
Vampires 3

Which makes the current overall standings:

Spirits 63
Humans 44
Werewolves 30
Devils 24
Vampires 18
Zombies 0

Spirits are now firmly at the top, and the card of the day was definatitly 'Strangleroot Geist' which featured in three decks!

Next week all player will start on 15 life, so what creature type can make the most of this? Will it be another great week for spirits or can werewolves cause some quick damage and dominate the play?

Gary of Team Gambit

24 Feb 2012

This week the league had a new mechanic ... all creature cost 1 less to cast!!!! This had a massive impact on the vampires and werewolves which seemed to dominate!

This week we had Spirits, Humans, Zombies, Devils, Vampires and Werewolves all trying to claim victories for their kind!

Nathan came out on top winning the day with 15 points and combined with James coming third greatly improved the werewolf tally, moving them into second spot with the spirits, could the time of the humans be coming to an end?

The new tribal scores are now:

Humans 35
Werewolves 27
Spirit 27
Vampires 15
Devils 12
Zombies 0

Next weeks league event will take place at Shoreham from 4pm and this week each land has 'TAP: Add one mana of any colour to your mana pool.' so multicoloured decks should be greatly improved!
Anyone is welcome to attend all you have to do is turn up with a tribal, block constructed deck ready to play!

Also a reminder that tonight's FNM is a draft! The cost will be £7.50 and starts at 6:30pm in Hove!
