I'm back!

Well I have returned and in doing so I have visited all the ToaTG members where possible to play some fun games. So here I go:

Games 1/2 against necrons and space marine (3 way game) Location: Wolverhampton and Wakefield.

These games where hard and I real thought I would struggle to get anywhere with the potential of SM and necrons teaming up and picking on my nids. However this was not the case. Phil SM in both games went for Rob and his necrons well Rob tried to slip right to hold him off, while I just went straight for the both of them. I the games I have learnt to hate assault cannons, destroyers and immotals. The fire power that the above can do can cripple my army at the mo in one or two turns and I hate it.

On the plus side my new fex with its Barbed strangler is ace and in the first gaming using it it stop phils vindicator from firing in the first turn, i only wish it would of destroyed it, oh how I would of laughed. On the plus side (the vindy) only took out 2 stealers and 3 or 4 gaunts before getting shot to pieces from 2 twin linked devourers on my other fex ha ha.

Both games have highlighted the importance to get into combat (and stay within synapse range) as soon as possible. It also showed how easy my new flying rippers are to take out with Str 6 fire power, this unit costs 180 pts and I am now begining to feel that it is a waste of points (but the models are so cool).

Game 3 (SM) Location: Brighton

After joining the rat race on Friday I travelled to Brighton to play against the founding fathers of Gambit Games and what a weekend.

The first game I had was against Gaz and as he mentioned he handed me my arse on a plate. I was lucky that in turn 2or3 his assault cannons and lascannons killed 2 monstrous creatures, killing the hive tyrant body guard and wounding the hive tyrant. However Gazs cries for joy where short lived when I told him that his assualt cannons where out of range and my bodyguard and HT where back in the game on full wounds. However Gaz played a blinding games and I lost. Pts that I took out of that game where to keep all gaunts in synapse range (again) as they just bounce of marines in combat.

Game 4 (Demon hunters) Location Brighton

This game had it all and has been the best game so far with my TOAFG army. It was played on a city fight board which hepled me more than Baz but by turn 3 I was in combat as the guard where charging me. YES GUARD CHARGED ME. I could not afford to run the gaunts into cbt and out of Synapse range. The enitial charge took me by suprise but my numbers start to show and when the stealers reached cbt I thought It must be over. However Baz is someone whom never throws the towel in and when his terminators arrived (by deep striking) he placed them in between 3 monstrous creatures and 2 raveners. The next turn he was very unluck to lose 4 terms from one shooting phase all from 1 fex who pumped out 10 shots into them. It then charged and died to a grand master grey knight, who then killed another fex, 1 ravener and a tyrant guard and almost the hive tyrant itself (but failed to wound on a 4+, ). Before getting killed (i think).

I have to be more wiery of Baz grey knights as I forgot they all get Str6 CCW or power weapons, at int 5 i think i will just shot them next time, lol.

Anyway, got models to paint.

Unitl next time KIR.

the Chaplin Cometh

Hello – I haven’t blogged for a while so I thought I would waffle on a bit about the ToaTG’ers project.
I had everything planned, the army designed and everything thought out. Had painted some lovely models AND NOW I WANT TO CHANGE IT……..

Had a game last night against Baz and it went really well, the army did what it was supposed to. The one big let down was the Librarian. The big plan with the librarian was to ride his bike into the middle of the other guy’s army and do a Fear of Darkness and they would all run away and it has never worked. In the three games I have used him it has never worked. I know its only three games, but this was three games against armies where it could do some damage (e.g. Guard). There are armies that it will be useless against, things with lots of fearless units and also Nids. So to be honest I am not sure it is worth the points, and it may have to be dropped. So I need a plan for a new commander and he comes in the shape of a Chaplin. Baz and I used a Chaplin in the doubles and he worked ok but he just wasn’t tooled enough so I am not going to make this mistake ok and he is going to be tooled up to the max.

The other reason I am taking him is because I don’t have that one really hard hitting monster unit that can take a game and I think the Chaplin in the bike unit could be it. I thought about giving him a jump pack and letting him roam around the board at will, but the bike gives him the extra toughness and mobility with a turbo boost move. Now I have a model of a Chaplin on a bike, but I want to give him a Thunder Hammer so I will need to do a new model….. (I have so many HQ models now, in various different configurations that I have more of them than tactical marines).

But as he is tooled something is going to have to drop from the army. What I think I can do is drop one of the bikes from the bike squad and then take one of the attack bikes and add it along with the Chaplin. So this will give me a 5 man squad, but I lose the attack bike squad. I think I will then try and give the attack bike a multi-melta. Not sure what this leaves me points wise at the moment, but it might be enough to get another speeder, I was hoping for enough for a dreadnought, but I don’t think it will be.

So after all these changes I think I will be finally settled. The army won’t be as big as I would like but I think it is pretty hard hitting if the units concentrate on hitting things en masse. I also think I have a character that is capable of taking on the MC’s of Paul’s Nid list. Yes Paul I am worried about them, there isn’t a lot that can take them out, but I think this Chaplin is the man.

Recovering from the doubles...

Well, finally recovered from the doubles just about! So, how did it go? well the weekend has left a massive question in my mind to be honest and that is:

why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, did i not do nids for my ToaTG project??!?!?!

The gaming went pretty much to plan with a top 6 finish and actually the second highest score on VP difference in the end.

The list played like a dream and i wouldn't really change much in what we took, although i have to say that i did miss the speed factor which is normally so prevailent in my armies so i think i'll be glad to get some speed back on the table in next years event.

So, it was mission accomplished and once again a solo effort from Gambit Games UK in attempting to drag the club up into the higher echelons of the tourney. I think once and for alll now we can agree that our much esteemed founding fathers pulled off a pretty massive fluke in the first year of this illustrious event! lol

So, on to the fantasy doubles next hunting yet another improvement in finish from all our members............
