KD Games at Gambit Sunday

Tomorrow is Gambit Sunday which is not the usual day but KD Games will be there as normal.

We will be bringing our stock as we usually do, there will be the last of the X-Wing stock which is reduced as well as some great new lines such as Boss Monster 2.

We will be running Splendor League games throughout the day and there will be opportunity for players to complete there Warhammer Conquest league games as well.

In regards to tournament play we will be offering a Modern Masters draft in the evening and a Lords of War Expanded Tournament in the afternoon.

Score sheets will be available for players to rate any games that they play which will be added to our database of some of the best board games.

This is in addition to play testing some games for Black Box and of course joining in where possible with the full day of gaming that Gambit Games brings us every month!

Tickets will also be on sale for CONQUEST which is coming in September...

It seems to have come around mighty quick but this weekend its Gambit Sunday and as normal there will be a full day of gaming!

This is the first club day of the year and we have a new committee...

It also means that for those of you that pay your subs annually, the payment will be due this month. It will be £40 for the year as normal which is a saving of £8 (assuming you come to every month).

Here are a few of the things that you can expect this month...

As yet I have not fixed a time for this event - it will depend on the amount of interest during the day. In fact I have enough prize support to be able to run more than one event if we have enough players.

Andy is going to be demonstrating Monsterpocalypse so if you fancy a game let him know either on the day or through facebook.

Barry and Michael are going to have some games of Dropzone Commander which has been very popular over the last few game days, if you have not had a chance to play this great game then speak to one of them on the day and I am sure they will be happy to give you a demo game!

We have not planned for a Lords of War event this weekend but depending on number of players that are interested I would very much like to award our first command star of the year - so anyone that is interested in playing a draft or 'schloss' event should let me know on the day and if there is enough interest we will get something organised for the afternoon/evening!

Star Realms has gone from strength to strength and as there are quite a few players it will be great to see if we can have some large multiplayer games. If your interested please let us know.

I will also be continuing with the play testing of Polar Panic, including some of the ideas for the new control deck, anyone wanting a game should ask Olly, Lily or myself and we will be happy to show you what is a very simple game to learn.

Brighton Heroclix will be there in the afternoon, and there are already games of X-Wing, Bolt Action and War Machine being arranged through social media.

There will be of course the usual multitude of games available throughout the day, so what ever you play you bound to get a chance to play!

Food will be available throughout the day ...

This weekend its Gambit Sunday and as normal there will be a full day of gaming!

Here are a few of the things that you can expect this month...

This weekend we will be holding another Lords of War tournament. This will be the last event before Black Box hold there end of year tournament at Dragonmeet on the 6th December, so it is one of the last chances to get onto the honor roll for 2014. This time it is a 'mercenary event' which means cards from any faction are allowed. There is no additional charge to enter this event, so there really is no reason not to play! If you have not won an event before then you have a chance to become one of only a few 'one star generals' or if you lucky enough to already be a previous champion then maybe you could become the first ever 'TWO STAR GENERAL'

I will also have a brand new card game called Star Realms which is really easy to learn, See the KD Games Blog for How to Play. If you want a demo then we will be happy to show you, its a fun game for either one v one games or in a group.

I will also be continuing with the play testing of Polar Panic, including some of the ideas for the new control deck, anyone wanting a game should ask Olly, Lily or myself and we will be happy to show you what is a very simple game to learn.

This weekend its Gambit Sunday and as normal there will be a full day of gaming!

For some of you, especially those that came to CONQUEST, may never have attended one of our Gambit Sunday Events at the Scout Hut in Vale Park, Portslade. We start at 10am and are there all day through to 10pm. Entrance cost £4, but if this is the first time you have ever attended then your entrance will be reduce to just ....... NOTHING.

So if you have never been before then this may be the month that you give it a try.

This is a big weekend for Lords of War, not only will I have the new play mats on sale and single army decks but we will be holding a 'Faction Tournament' from 1pm. Will Monsters and Magic change Lords of War?

The short answer is yes. The change is going to be quite a big one actually especially once all three expansions are out.

You can continue to play with the existing Lords of War products and I am sure for some people that will be enough. However for the majority I think once you have seen the new creature types you simply won't go back.

The first change is the deck size we go from the current 36 card deck to a 54 card deck which will of course change the breakdown of unit types. (which I will talk about in another article)

The hand size also changes from 6 cards to 7, which will give you a little more option when choosing which card to play.

The biggest change however is the victory conditions, you now need to kill 30 units of 6 command cards to win. It actually makes the win by command much harder to achieve so is likely to have a big impact on tournament games.

So that is the technical change but the one people really want to know about is the new creature types, so lets start off with...

Monstrous Creature.

Monstrous Units bring a whole new level of strategic thinking to Lords of War. Not only can they all move which is a pretty impressive skill to have but, as you can see form the number in red on a black circle next to the shield value, they also have a monstrous defence value.

So what is a monstrous defence? Well is means that no attack arrow which deals EQUAL OR LESS THAN a monstrous unit's monstrous defence can damage it.

Weaker units might be able to engage them but your heavy damage units will be needed to actually eliminate them.

Strategically this changes things a lot. Do you commit high hitting cards early or wait until these beasts hit the battlefield? If you do will you allow your enemy to build up to quickly, if you don't will you still be able to kill the monsters that you know will come in the end?

For a game that can already be quite tense this could really put you on the edge of you seat.

I will have a look at flying units and possibly the most exciting cards, magic casters tomorrow in the mean time why not have a look at the kickstarter and back it at what ever level you can afford.

Lords of War Faction Tournament

Following the tournament we held at this years CONQUEST, we will be holding a Lords of War tournament as part of our games day on Sunday 26th October, starting at 1pm, which means you will have from 10am when the club day starts for other games or a bit of deck building/testing.

The Structure;

• 3/4 Rounds 
• 40 min time limit on each round. Once reached players will have 5 turns to finish the game. If no victor is confirmed it will be a draw.
• Each round best of 1 game 
• Each round computer generated 
• Computer will work out the victor at the end based on match wins and various percentages. 

The Rules set we will be using; 

• Player 1 decided by D6 roll offs
• We will be using the Lords of War play mat, so as to constrain size and length of games
• Each game will be won by the first player to kill 20 of the opponents units/characters or the first player to kill 4 of the opponents command units (this includes the general)
• Deck construction will be restricted too;

One faction (either Orcs, Elves, Lizardmen or Dwarfs)
1 x General

5 x Other Command Units

4 x Special Units  

4 x Elite Units

6 x Veteran Units

8 x Regular Units

8 x Recruit Units

(We will not be using Templars or Undead)

• Players are allowed to customize their decks an should players want additional card there will be individual army packs for sale on the day)
• Points will be award as follows;

1 for each unit killed
an additional 1 point it the unit is a commander (not general)
an additional 2 points if the unit is a general
an additional 5 points for winning the game
an additional 1 point if the game is drawn.

• The winner will be the player with the highest score at the end of the event, not necessarily the most game wins.

As stated kick off will be at 1pm, there is no addtitional charge for this event but there is a prize! The winner will receive a command star and a limited edition foil command card. It should be a lot of fun, hope to see you all there.

Gaming Sunday

A bit late I know but in just in case your not aware, today its Gambit Sunday and as normal there will be a full day of gaming!

Although there was nothing planned for this week there have been a number of players requesting a draft of M15, so if there is enough interest I am happy to arrange one for about 4/5pm, we would need at least 6 players. Please let me know if your interested when you arrive. (the cost would be £10 on top of the usual gambit entry price)

Nick from Black Box is due to pop along with the demo version of his new Polar Bear game and we will be looking for some players young and old to give this a go. The game has changed a bit since last time and a number of suggestions have been taken on board. There will be lots of new ideas to test, so if your interested please let me know. Nick will be there from 5pm

There is a Malifaux tournament being run through out the day, details of which can be found on the Gambit Games Facebook page - if you are interested in finding out more ask us when you arrive.

There will co course be the usual Bolt Action, War Machine, Hero Clix, 40K and much much more!

Food will be available all day as usual...

Lastly, but by no means least we be selling tickets for ...

We are now in a position to confirm that the first 50 tickets sold will get a goody bag on the day of the event, more details of which will be given in the coming weeks! These tickets are still priced at just £7.50 and tournaments are at £2.50. These prices only last until the end of June so please NOW!

Gaming Sunday

This weekend its Gambit Sunday and as normal there will be a full day of gaming!

Nothing special planned for this weekend but there is sure to be quite a bit of casual play which usually includes commander. I have got a small amount of Conspiracy boosters left I might be able to do a 4 or 6 player draft (the cost would be £10 on top of the usual gambit entry price)

This week I am looking for 4 players to continue with the play testing of our new campaign system for Lords of War - we have been doing it for the last few Tuesdays and need to make the final tests before introducing it as a format to the team at Black Box and the start of our monthly LOW events on Fridays at the Royal George!

There are also likely to be a few new games being played as I know several people went up to Expo a few weeks back and picked up some new toys. I have given Kevin the game IPA to have a look at and will be posting something about that on the KD Games blog a bit later today! We really need 4 players who are willing to give this a try and let us know what it is like. This is something that we have been asked to do by the game designer - so honest feedback please.
